
Sheila Cranman serves as Assistant Chief Counsel II for Export & Trade on the Research team in the Legal Affairs unit of Georgia Tech’s Office of the General Counsel. Since joining Georgia Tech in 2006, she has advised on export controls and trade compliance, including service as Interim Director for Export Controls & Trade Compliance from 2022 to 2024.
A registered mediator in Georgia, Sheila brings extensive experience in dispute resolution, teaching, and program development. Before joining Georgia Tech, she directed a juvenile court mediation program in Georgia and later taught mediation as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Arkansas Little Rock Bowen School of Law. There, she developed a juvenile mediation clinic and partnered with the U.S. Department of Justice to train law enforcement in mediation skills.
At Georgia Tech, Sheila has participated in several leadership development programs, including Leading Women of Tech, Inclusive Leaders Academy, the Adaptive Leadership Workshop, and the Diversity & Inclusion Fellows Program. Her Fellows project to train graduate students in conflict resolution has since been embedded in Georgia Tech’s Responsible Conduct of Research courses for first-year graduate students.
Sheila earned her J.D. from the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law and a B.A. from Indiana University. Outside the office, she enjoys walking and spending time with family and friends.
